Jamaica, 1675.
After a long career in piracy, Captain Henry Morgan is crowned Governor of Jamaica, with the explicit order to clear the Caribbean of pirates and privateers! Instead ‘of that, he summons all his former "colleagues" to accompany him into his retirement and enjoy the fruits of their plunder. Every year, in remembrance of the “good old days”, Morgan organizes the "Great Challenge", a race around the island, and at its end, the captain with the most gold is declared the Grand Winner.
How to play the game :
The game is played in rounds. Each player always has three cards in hand and a personal board that represents five ship holds, into which goods are stacked during the game. In each round, one player is appointed ”captain”. The ”captain” rolls 2 six-sided dice, checks his cards and then announces which die represents the ”day” and which the ”night”. Then the remaining players simultaneously choose one card from their hand and place it face down in front of them. Each card has two symbols on it, one on the left – which represents the ”day”- and one on the right, which represents the ”night”. These symbols either indicate ship movement (forward or backward) or the loading of goods. When all players have chosen a card, all cards are revealed simultaneously and, starting from the ”captain” , their actions are executed. When it is a player's turn to execute the actions of his card, starting from left and then right, he either acquires goods or advances his ship depending on the numbers shown by the dice in that round, for the ”day” and the “night”. Finally, during the race, when a player stops on a spot already occupied by another player, a battle occurs. Battles are resolved by rolling a battle die, but players have the option to improve their chances of victory by using ”gunpowder” from their holds, if they have any. The winner of a battle can steal from the loser either goods or treasure!
